The RangeX team spend a great week together in November 2024, gathering for a writing retreat. This year, it took place in Germany, in the Black Forest, where we worked together on various papers. We found ourselves in many productive discussions, for example on policy-related topics, aiming to write a communication letter on climate change, biological invasions, extinctions and range expansions in mountains across the world. The data paper for the upslope transplantation field experiment in Switzerland, Norway, South Africa, and China made good progress with the method section and data cleaning parts. For the invasive species removal experiment, data visualization and writing happened. We also learned a lot about ecosystem gas fluxes. The aim here is to understand and interpret the measured light performance curves and the effect of upslope transplanted lowland species in the native alpine community on fluxes. Additionally, the paper about predictors of range expansions advanced well. Overall, we were able to work very focused and intensely on many fronts of the RangeX project, with creative breaks to e.g. design the guestbook page of our accommodation with a drawing including all team members.
